12-Week Strike Against Verizon in North Carolina is Settled

Washington, D.C. -- The Communications Workers of America reported that 150 employees of Verizon in the western North Carolina area ratified a new contract last night to end a 12-week strike. Workers are expected to return to their jobs on Monday, August 11.

Alliance@IBM members and other IBM workers won a major victory when a federal court ruled on July 31 against IBM's attempt to switch their pension plan to a cash-balance one. There's no decision yet on how affected employees will be compensated and IBM plans to appeal immediately.
