Mediator Steps into ALLTEL Talks As Kentucky Strike Continues

IUE-CWA Local 82162 members returned to work at ITT Night Vision in Roanoke, Va., Aug. 3, after ratifying a five-year contract with significant improvements in wages, pension, vacation and overtime requirements, and a fair formula for dealing with health care cost increases.

More than 3,000 Verizon workers laid off last December won their jobs back last month as a result of CWA's arbitration victory upholding contractual job security safeguards. The ruling cost Verizon tens of millions of dollars that it never needed to risk.

CWA members at Verizon East were locked in a mobilization fight for jobs and health security as negotiations were continuing at CWA News press time, nearly three weeks after the contract covering 60,000 members expired on Aug. 2.
