Lucent, Solectron Corp. Reach Purchase Agreement

As part of a continuing company-wide restructuring, Lucent Technologies has reached a three-year purchase agreement with Solectron Corp., resulting in Solectron’s taking over a major portion of the manufacturing work at Lucent’s Merrimack Valley Works facility.

Verizon has started to send notices to thousands of women who may be eligible for additional benefits under a settlement reached in a class-action pregnancy discrimination lawsuit filed by CWA, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission and other plaintiffs.

Chicago Interpreters Join Newspaper Guild

It took three years, but court interpreters in Chicago finally have a union, having voted 51-29 to join the Chicago Newspaper Guild, TNG-CWA Local 34071. The unit represents 121 Cook County interpreters who collectively speak 50 languages, as well as sign language.
