CWA Representative Lawrence "Jack" Baccari, 61, died suddenly of a heart attack May 26, while in a Bell South arbitration meeting in Birmingham, Ala.

In 2001, public sector union leader Hector Giraldo fled Colombia under a death threat. After seeing his union president gunned down by paramilitaries, he spent a year in the United States, spreading the word to trade unionists and others about the horrors union members face in his country.

Honoring the memory of Ed Spillet, a NABET-CWA staff representative who died of juvenile diabetes last December, CWA headquarters employees joined District 2 locals and Verizon workers for Washington, D.C.'s Walk to Cure Diabetes in May. Walkers included CWA Pres. Morton Bahr.
