We are saddened and outraged by the cruel and violent murder of Alex Dolorosa, a union organizer and a paralegal with the BPO Industry Employee Network (BIEN) in Bacolod, Philippines. Unfortunately, his tragic murder only reinforces the reason that the Philippines repeatedly is ranked annually as one of the world’s deadliest countries for worker organizers. Our hearts go out to his family, friends and colleagues at BIEN at this horrible time.

Wall Street has grown accustomed to getting its way in Washington, but as expected, hedge fund Standard General’s attempt to push a harmful merger through the court system after the FCC recommended taking a closer look at the deal has been found to have no merit.

After the FCC raised concerns about the impact of Standard General’s proposed takeover of TV stations on local programming, the hedge fund spammed the editorial pages of six “local” newspapers owned by Alden Global Capital.
