Today, on International Human Rights Day, the Communications Workers of America Executive Board is united in its support for activists in the Philippines who face intimidation and retaliation for seeking to improve the lives and conditions of Filipino workers.

This week, U.S. Senator Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) introduced the Treating Workers With Dignity Act, cosponsored by U.S. Senators Cory Booker (D-N.J.) and Kamala Harris (D-Calif.). The new bill would guarantee employees a break to eat a meal, use the restroom, or tend to their medical needs while on the job.

The New Mexico Public Regulation Commission (NMPRC) has rejected CenturyLink’s attempts to avoid its responsibility to provide quality residential telecommunications service to all New Mexicans.

Workers at a Bay Area T-Mobile retail store in Pinole, Calif., voted last week to join the Communications Workers of America (CWA). The vote was 7-2 in favor of union representation.

CWA remains skeptical of last-minute pledges and unenforceable commitments from T-Mobile - a company that has proven itself untrustworthy and hostile to workers’ rights. The news out of Nevada and Texas should give little comfort to workers and consumers in either state.
