As the economic stimulus issue has turned into a political football game, organized labor is making sure that union members and the general public know that it is congressional Republicans and the president who are trying to ram through a tax giveaway package for corporations and the wealthy that ignores workers' needs and fails to address the immediate recession.

CWA is pressing the Department of Transportation to give furloughed airline customer service agents priority consideration in hiring for the new federal jobs created by Congress in the Airline Security Act.

Following the heart-breaking House vote of 215-214 that gave President Bush "fast-track" trade negotiating authority, the Senate Finance Committee voted to move a similar measure to the Senate floor. However, Senate action is not expected until February or later.

Through the significant efforts of Districts 1 and 3, hundreds of workers won CWA representation in December.
