David P. Kent, associate editor of the CWA News and a union staff member since 1966, died on Dec. 31, 1999 after a 10-month battle against lung cancer. He was 61.

An online magazine has named IBM workers its “Disgruntled Employees of the Year” for an ongoing effort to organize with the help of CWA. Alliance@IBM/CWA was formed after the company schemed to reduce pension plan benefits for mid-career workers.

CWA’s Joseph Anthony Beirne Foundation will award 30 scholarships of up to $3,000 for the 2000-2001 school year to active and retired CWA members, their spouses, children or grandchildren, or those of deceased members.
