From the presidency to Congress to state legislatures and governors’ races, the November 2000 vote is the most important election in a generation, impassioned CWA and political leaders told participants at this year’s Legislative/Political Conference in Washington, D.C.

Eduardo Diaz was exceptional. His commitment to his family, his work and his union will continue to speak for him far beyond his life. For me, and all of us who worked with him, the loss of his love and friendship is beyond measure.

Eduardo Diaz, CWA’s international affairs director, died of a heart attack July 18 while attending an international conference in Edinburgh, Scotland. He was 41.

Detroit’s locked-out newspaper workers marked five years on the picket lines in July while coping with a severe blow from three federal judges, who overturned all unfair labor practice decisions against the papers’ management.
