A powerful new report by the Asian Pacific American Labor Alliance, "Breaking Ground, Breaking Silence," gives voice to workers who testified about health and safety violations, immigrant worker exploitation, wage theft, employer intimidation, union suppression and other issues at the first National Asian Pacific American Workers' Rights Hearing. APALA, the AFL-CIO and more than 20 national and local organizations held the hearing to provide a national platform for Asian Americans and Pacific Islander workers to speak about challenges they face in the workplace.

The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences awarded a five-year grant to CWA's Occupational Safety and Health Department and the United Steelworkers' Tony Mazzocchi Center for health, safety, and environment education. Together, CWA and the Steelworkers will develop worker-to-worker training on a variety of safety and health issues on the job. CWA's share of the grant, which runs through July 2015, is $2.5 million.

Members of the Newspaper Guild of New York/CWA Local 31003 at Thomson Reuters have some powerful allies in their fight for a fair contract. Local members who have been mobilizing for a fair contract covering 400 workers at Thomson Reuters have won support from members of the New York City Council and Borough Presidents, as well as leaders of the city's union movement.

Busloads of CWA members were on Capitol Hill for CWA's Lobby Day, holding more than 140 meetings with members of Congress and staff on jobs, bargaining rights for public safety officers and high-speed broadband access for all Americans.

CWA delegates voted strong support for T-Mobile USA workers who are fighting for bargaining rights, and applauded the actions of ver.di, the union for T-Mobile workers in Germany that is working with CWA to end the double standard at the company.
