The alarm bell rings, and you hear on the intercom, “A fire has been reported on the 14th floor. Please exit the building by the nearest stairwell.” Sure, it's annoying, particularly if it’s a false alarm, but if it’s for real, you might be thankful that a CWA member saved your life.

When it comes to politics, big business has deep pockets but CWA has something better: 725,000 members.

Management at AT&T Broadband’s East Tech Center in Stone Mountain, Ga., pulled out all the stops. Before it was over, techs found literature on their windshields, so-called “fact” sheets urging them to, “Do Away with the CWA.”

They take your calls for airline reservations and telephone service and assist you with telephone repairs. They take your airline tickets at the gate. They help you place classified ads in newspapers and may assist you when you call a government office or university.
