• The Patriot Ledger Newsroom Associates voted 45-2 to affiliate their formerly independent union with The Newspaper Guild-CWA, reported Eric Geist, administrative assistant to TNG-CWA President Linda Foley.

CWA started the new year by welcoming more than 2,000 new members, with the largest gains coming at Cingular Wireless in Districts 1 and 3, Advanced Solutions Inc. in District 4, and AT&T Broadband in Districts 6 and 13.

As a little boy, Teddy Roosevelt was a sickly and frail child. No one expected that he would grow up to be a strong, energetic man who would become one of America’s most popular presidents.

Albert Stanley Bowles, a CWA veteran whose union career began more than 50 years ago, died Jan. 3 in an Austin, Texas, hospital after suffering complications from heart surgery. He was 79.

During the holiday lull, President George Bush quietly revoked President Clinton’s order designed to bar companies from receiving federal contracts if they violate environmental and labor standards.
