Concurrent with the purchase of the Puerto Rico Telephone Company by GTE, the 4,800-member Independent Union of Telephone Workers (UIET) has signed an Alliance agreement with CWA that will establish a partnership in community-based coalition building, organizing and collective bargaining.

Art Jamison Dies at Age 80

J. Arthur (Art) Jamison, who founded a CWA local in Phoenix, Ariz., and went on to become an administrative assistant to the vice president of District 7, died on Dec. 3 in a nursing home in Olympia, Wash. He was 80 years old and had been in failing health for some months.
