There's a new way that customers can join the labor movement's campaign to help Dish Network employees gain the respect they deserve.

When CWA President Morton Bahr approves a staff retirement, he usually just signs his name. In the case of Assistant to the President Hugh Walsh, Bahr appended to his signature - with a double underscore - the word "reluctantly." Walsh retired Dec. 31 at age 55.

Cancer Claims Theodore 'Tevie' Volk, Veteran CWA Leader in South
Theodore "Tevie" Volk Jr., who rose from the ranks at Southern Bell to become vice president of CWA's former District 10, died at his Talladega, Ala., home Dec. 7 after a nine-month battle with lung cancer. He was 80.

Janelle Hartman had an interesting article about media and democracy in the 2002, November/December issue of the CWA News. After reading it I am more optimistic about unions themselves playing a critical role in providing news.
