CWA members rallied in New York City to protest AT&T's plans to move their jobs from lower Manhattan to outside the city.

Lucent Technologies is continuing a major company-wide restructuring as it seeks to weather the economic downturn that has hit telecommunications companies especially hard — Lucent’s primary customers.

About 50 staffers at the University of Virginia have formed a union and affiliated with CWA. Their potential for organizing is enormous, with 8,000 eligible administrative and technical university employees.

In an ongoing effort to help telephone workers in El Salvador build their union, CWA members in District 9 are paying for two full-time organizers for six months through donations to the Eduardo Diaz Union-to-Union program, reported Vice President Tony Bixler.

CWA members in three states, now employed by Citizens Communications but who worked for Global Crossing from 1999 to 2001, have the support of a growing number of members of Congress who have pledged to investigate the bankrupt company's practices.
