In July 2007, the Alaska Supreme Court made a landmark ruling in which the Court held that a telecommunications worker's exposure to radiofrequency (RF) radiation at levels slightly above the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) RF radiation safety limit caused psychological or cognitive mental health effects

District 2 Electrocution Fatality Settlement Agreement

In October, 2006, Marvin Benson, a member of CWA Local 2100 employed as a lineman by Verizon, was electrocuted while installing aerial FIOS cable within close proximity to a power line. While holding the cable lead, he threw the lead through the branches of a tree (which was obstructing the work). Unfortunately, the lead fell on the 7600 volt power line transferring the electrical energy to Marvin- causing his death.

Fall Fatality: Phillip Hodges (CWA Local 4100, Detroit, Michigan)

On May 5th, 2007, Phillip Hodges, a member of CWA Local 4100 and a Construction and Special Services (CSS) Technician employed by at&t, suffered fatal injuries when he fell from a ladder while performing work on an outdoor residential telecommunications cable/strand. After hearing Brother Hodges fall to the ground, the customer contacted emergency medical services. In turn, Phillip was taken to Sinai-Grace Hospital in Detroit.
