Governor Signs Massive Voter Suppression Law in North Carolina

North Carolina Gov. Pat McCrory (R) on Monday signed into law an extreme voter suppression bill that puts heavy restrictions on the state?s voters. It immediately was challenged by the North Carolina NAACP, the Advancement Project, the American Civil Liberties Union, the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, the League of Women Voters, Common Cause and the A. Philip Randolph Institute.

The United Mine Workers reached a tentative settlement with bankrupt Patriot Coal on new terms and conditions of employment covering 1,800 active or laid off miners in West Virginia and Kentucky.
CWA-IBT Association and US Airways Interim Letter of Agreement Ratification Vote Placed On Hold

On August 13, 2013, the US Department of Justice (DOJ) along with six States and the District of Columbia filed a lawsuit seeking to block the US Airways-American Airlines merger. Given the uncertainly the DOJ?s lawsuit creates with respect to the timing and/or viability of the merger, the CWA and IBT believe it prudent to place the ratification vote for the tentative Interim Letter of Agreement on hold while we evaluate the situation and our options.
