In testimony to HFSC, Beneficial State Bank employee and Committee for Better Banks leader Desiree Jackson lifts up first banking industry union contract in 40 years.

A national coalition of labor, environmental, trade and veterans groups launched a nationwide campaign this week calling on manufacturing giant General Electric to heed the Biden administration’s call to “Build Back Better” by reinvesting in domestic manufacturing jobs in green energy, military, and commercial aviation.

Ending a nearly 40-year drought of union contracts in the banking industry, employees at Beneficial State Bank across Washington, Oregon and California ratified their first contract, after forming a historic union for the industry in March 2020. The 96 workers in the bargaining unit are represented by the Communications Workers of America and include bankers, consumer loan servicing representatives, loan processors, underwriters, file clerks and custodial staff.

Employees at creative agency Blue State have voted to approve their first collective bargaining agreement. The agreement provides job security, structure and clarity for the workers, who are represented by Communications Workers of America Local 1101.
