In Letter To FCC And DOJ, Mikulski And Cardin Warn Against Job-Killing Verizon-Big Cable Deal

As opposition to the Verizon-big cable deal mounts, U.S. Senators Barbara Mikulski and Benjamin Cardin sent a letter on Thursday to FCC (Federal Communications Commission) Chairman Julius Genachowski and U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder outlining the harmful impact the current deal would have in Baltimore and across Maryland, and urging the FCC and DOJ (Department of Justice) to consider the negative effects on middle-class jobs and access for low-income consumers.

Linda Hinton Sworn in as District 4 Vice President

Communications Workers of America President Larry Cohen today swore in Linda Hinton as the new District 4 vice president. The President recommended and the Executive Board approved the appointment of Hinton to the position following the tragic death of Seth Rosen who had served as vice president since 2005. Rosen died in a drowning accident in North Carolina on Friday, July 20, 2012. He was 55.

Over 120 Members of Congress Write American Airlines To Remind Airline It's Not Above The Law

More than 120 members of Congress today told American Airlines that despite what wealthy senior executives may think, the company is not above following laws passed by the U.S. Congress. The Communications Workers of America (CWA) released a letter signed by 121 members of Congress to American Airlines CEO Thomas Horton - who manages to take home millions in salary and bonuses while running a bankrupt airline - stating that American Airlines' attempts to stop workers from exercising their democratic right to vote in a legal union election just won't fly.

CWA District 4 and T/T Sector Reach Tentative Contracts with AT&T Midwest and Legacy

The Communications Workers of America District 4 and CWA's Telecommunications and Technologies Sector have reached tentative agreements in separate negotiations with AT&T Midwest and AT&T Legacy. CWA members and leaders across all districts are continuing to support bargaining that is continuing in District 9, with AT&T West, and with Local 1298, with AT&T East. The contract covering CWA members in District 3 with AT&T Southeast expires Aug. 4.
