Verizon Buried Service Pact Boosts Pay and Benefits

CWA has settled on a new agreement on behalf of about 200 members employed by the Verizon Buried Service Wire Group, bringing them fully paid health care premiums, new dental and 401(k) retirement savings plans, and other gains.

CWA reached tentative three-year agreements with SBC Communications that improve working conditions, job security and compensation for 116,000 CWA-represented workers at Ameritech, Pacific Bell/Nevada Bell, Southwestern Bell and Southern New England Telephone.

After the nomination of right-wing ideologue and union-hater Linda Chavez fizzled, the selection of Elaine Chao as Labor Secretary certainly looked more promising. In fact, Secretary Chao made the trip to Los Angeles last month to meet with the AFL-CIO Executive Council where she voiced her willingness to work with union leaders.
