Members of the Association of Flight Attendants have approved a merger with CWA, voting to join forces to strengthen flight attendants' jobs and security as well as bolster organizing efforts in the airline industry.

IUE-CWA members overwhelmingly ratified 4-year national agreements bringing increased job security, wage increases, pension and health care improvements to 10,000 members at Delphi Corp. and an additional 4,000 at General Motors.

Despite controversy surrounding the 2000 presidential election, most Americans were willing to accept the legitimacy of the new president and to take him at his word: that he was a "compassionate" man rather than a hard-line rightist, and that he was "a uniter, not a divider."

A five-month-long work stoppage at Summit County Children's Services in Akron, Ohio, came to an end with an agreement to resolve the dispute between CWA Local 4546 and the county through mediation and arbitration.

A New Jersey federal district court judge threw out a nine-count lawsuit filed last year by Verizon Wireless against CWA.
