Partner with Girl Scouts and Help Young girls Learn about the Labor movement

Penn’s Woods Council Creates the Unions in the Community Patch

If you are looking for a great project for your Local’s Women’s Committee here is a way to not only help educate young girls about the Labor Movement, but build strong ties to the community as well. For specific details about how you can create a patch like this is your local Girl Scout Council, please contact Local 13000 or 13571.

The Girl Scout organization has provided girls with knowledge, skills and leadership abilities for many years and is an important part of our communities and social structure.   We recognize and applaud their important contributions.   Local 13000’s Women’s Committee members, Liza Fazzini, Mary Beth Gambone, Mary Loughlin, Jean Ryder, and Linda Tenaglia, and Local 13571 member Janice Lohmann, working with the Penn’s Woods Council developed the patch, which includes “Rosie the Riverter”, and the words “Unions, Unity & Strength.”   This patch is fine extension of Girl Scouts organization’s work and provides a much-needed vehicle to raise awareness of labor history, labor activities and the value of union membership.   Girls who participate in this project will one day enter the job market with a better understanding of our contributions and will be able to make an informed decision about participation in unions.

We urge CWA Local Women’s Committees to partner with the Girl Scouts in their communities, using the Penn’s Woods Council patch as a model, to develop a similar patch in their councils.
