CWA’s training center in Washington, D.C. on March 2 graduated its first class of 15 technicians referred by the Prince Georges’ Workforce Services Corp., the union’s suburban Maryland community partner.

Building upon a history of common cause and struggle by minorities and labor unions, CWA’s National Civil Rights and Equity Conference addressed a broad range of initiatives to encourage minority leadership in the union, the community and the nation.

Twenty-nine professional staff at American Postal Workers Union headquarters in Washington, D.C., have become CWA members through voluntary card-check recognition, joining the Newspaper Guild-CWA Local 35.

CWA increased by more than 1,700 new members in January, February and March and could soon draw several hundred more, the largest numbers coming in the wireless, health care and public safety sectors.
