Concerned about rising medical costs, huge numbers of uninsured patients, seriously understaffed hospitals and other patient-care problems, CWA-represented nurses in Buffalo, N.Y., led citywide rallies in June to call for solutions.

Hall Sisson, who came to CWA as a lobbyist in 1972 and later served as the union’s deputy political director, has retired. Sisson, who was born and raised in California, was working as a lobbyist for the National Aerospace Services Association when he learned of a job at CWA.
“Doc” Sigler, Retired CWA Leader in South, Dies

W.C. “Doc” Sigler, who retired in 1978 as administrative assistant to the vice president of then- District 10, died June 10 in Birmingham, Ala., after a long illness. He was 85.

CWA pioneer George Miller, who served the union for more than four decades and headed its political and legislative programs for many years, died July 11 after a long illness. He was 82.

The newest group of court interpreters to join The Newspaper Guild-CWA left no doubt that they’re eager to be union members: Better than 99 percent of them voted “yes.”
