Council members in 23 California cities have joined CWA, state legislators and the state Public Utilities Commission in expressing concern about the telecom industry's failure to create jobs and invest in capital projects.

The U.S. House voted down a spending bill amendment that would have protected American workers' right to overtime, however, CWA President Bahr vowed to continue the fight in Congress and the media to ensure workers understand that the 40-hour workweek is in serious peril.

CWA-represented technical and research workers at the University of California overwhelmingly ratified a strong two-year contract that improves job security, wages and union rights.

The deadline to apply for two 2003-04 Bahr Scholarships to Empire State College's Center for Distance Learning, part of the State University of New York, has been extended to July 28.
