Putting their faith into action on behalf of a fired worker and others fighting for union rights at Comcast, religious leaders in Pennsylvania have banded together to put pressure on the Philadelphia-based cable giant.

Fed up with trade policies that have contributed to the loss of 2.7 million manufacturing jobs and 850,000 service jobs since 2001 — jobs in every CWA sector — voters in November elected 22 new members of Congress who made fair trade a centerpiece of their campaigns.

Even though Texas state workers don't have collective bargaining rights, last year they won their fight to save 2,900 state jobs. And in 2005 and 2006, they enjoyed some of the best raises their members had seen in 10 years.

CWA nurses in Buffalo, N.Y., are at the forefront of the battle to preserve quality patient care, jobs and workers' rights against the backdrop of a worsening health care crisis.

It may come as a surprise to you that in many states public workers are not allowed to have collective bargaining. They can form a union but they cannot bargain a contract — the state forbids it.
