I’m deeply saddened by the passing of William “Bill” Lucy. He was a pillar of both the Civil Rights and Labor Movements, a pioneer, a mentor, and a visionary not just for social justice but for the nation as a whole. He inspired me to dedicate myself to building and strengthening connections between the Civil Rights and Labor Movements.

Last week’s ruling from the National Labor Relations Board reinforces something that has been clear from the start of the strike: the Post-Gazette has been violating federal labor law.

Today’s announcement of the CHIPS Act-funded contract the U.S. Department of Commerce has signed with Polar Semiconductor falls short of the standards set by the Biden-Harris Administration’s Executive Order on Investing in America and American Workers and Good Jobs Principles. In particular, the announcement and information on the CHIPS for America website contain no details about enforceable labor and environmental standards or public reporting requirements.

Apple Retail Union-CWA Local 6016 members at the Penn Square Mall Apple Store overwhelmingly voted to ratify their first collectively-bargained contract, becoming the second union of Apple Store retail workers in the country to do so.

The contract covers 260 union members represented by CWA Local 1180 and was reached after more than two years of negotiations, supported by mobilization of union members across the country.
