CWA President Larry Cohen this week called for a new democracy movement in America to reclaim for workers and the general public power that has been taken from them in poorly negotiated trade deals.

Today the Senate Judiciary Committee holds a hearing on Sen. Tom Udall's constitutional amendment to restore the authority of Congress and the states to set reasonable limits on raising and spending of money in political campaigns. Congress is expected to vote this year on this legislation that will begin to restore the first amendment rights of ordinary Americans.

New populism necessitates movement building, CWA President Larry Cohen said. "New populism can't just be the sum of the parts. We have to really struggle beyond our parts," he said, speaking at a Campaign for America's Future event focused on strategies for educating, energizing and mobilizing around an agenda for economic change.
