56 Senators Vote to Bring Jobs Home, but Senate Republicans Refuse to Consider "Insourcing" Bill

The U.S. Senate today took up the Bring Jobs Home Act, but despite a majority of senators voting to provide incentives to companies that bring good jobs back to the U.S., the bill failed to get the 60-vote "super majority" needed break a Republican filibuster and move the bill to the Senate floor. The final vote was 56-42.
CWA, IBEW Request Federal Mediation in Contract Talks with Verizon

Today, the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW) requested the services of the Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service (FMCS) regarding on-going negotiations with Verizon Communications. The two unions represent approximately 45,000 workers at Verizon locations from New England to Virginia.

The Communications Workers of America (CWA) today hailed the growing national outrage over taxpayer subsidies for corporations that send jobs off shore, as Sen. Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced S.3402, a companion bill to the ?U.S. Call Center and Worker Protection Act? in the United States Senate. Among other provisions, the legislation would ban companies that off shore American call center jobs from receiving federal loans, grants or subsidies for five years.
