The National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences awarded a five-year grant to CWA's Occupational Safety and Health Department and the United Steelworkers' Tony Mazzocchi Center for health, safety, and environment education. Together, CWA and the Steelworkers will develop worker-to-worker training on a variety of safety and health issues on the job. CWA's share of the grant, which runs through July 2015, is $2.5 million.

CWA's Occupational Safety and Health Department and the United Steelworkers (USW) Tony Mazzocchi Center (TMC), its health, safety and environment education and training division, were recently awarded a five-year grant award from the U.S. National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences. The grant, to be initiated August 1, 2010 and run through July 31, 2015, will allow CWA and USW/TMC to join together in developing and conducting safety and health training for CWA and USW members.

CWA members at AT&T Internet in Districts 3, 4, 6 and 9 voted overwhelmingly for strike authorization if a fair contract can't be reached.

CWA members who created and led a project to reduce the use of patient restraints at Ancora Psychiatric Hospital in New Jersey have won first place in a statewide quality improvement competition, beating more than 60 other entries.
