An election-year Congress is taking up several measures that will affect working families — from budget proposals to taxes to health care — and CWA is pressing for action that will benefit workers’ jobs, pocketbooks and families.

With union activists on one side and corporate lawyers on another, the future of a proposed ergonomics standard is being debated in Washington, D.C., with hearings moving soon to Chicago and Portland, Ore.

Last June, Marilyn Salas, a nurse-midwife and mother of three from Albuquerque, N.M., completed her master’s degree and promptly packed her bags for Washington, D.C. She’s now handling health and environmental issues for Rep. Bobby Scott of Virginia. Her ticket to Capitol Hill?
