California Cities Join CWA in Telecom Fight
Council members in 23 California cities have joined CWA, state legislators and the state Public Utilities Commission in calling on the telecom industry to live up to its promises to create jobs and invest in capital projects.

A federal court ruling July 31 was a major victory for Alliance@IBM members and other IBM workers whose pensions took hits when the company switched to a cash-balance pension plan.

At an Aug. 5 forum focused on working family issues, the nine declared Democratic presidential candidates answered taped questions from workers and described their plans to restore jobs, improve and expand health care and turn around the sinking economy.

In spite of overwhelming evidence that at least 8 million Americans would lose their overtime rights under the Depart-ment of Labor's plan to erode the Fair Labor Standards Act, agency officials are refusing to back off their claims that only 644,000 workers would be affected.

Less than 8.5 percent of private sector workers and less than 35 percent of public workers are covered by collective bargaining agreements.
