Iraq War Claims Second CWA Member

A second CWA member has died in Iraq. Richard Gilbert Jr., 26, a member of the 31st Marine Expeditionary unit based in Kaneohe Bay, Hawaii, was one of 30 Marines and one Navy sailor who perished Jan. 26 when their Super Stallion helicopter went down in a sandstorm near the Jordanian border.

'One Dynamic Lady:' Norma Powell Raised Bar for Minority Staff
Norma C. Powell, a retired administrative assistant to four CWA vice presidents died unexpectedly of a heart attack Feb. 2 at a hospital in Birmingham, Ala., after being admitted for pneumonia. She was 66.

Intense bargaining that continued for several hours past contract expiration has resulted in a tentative five-year agreement with Verizon North Central covering 2,000 workers in the Midwest, reported CWA District 4 Vice President Jeff Rechenbach.
