Concerned over the lack of job security, poor wages, and exorbitant health care costs, 588 customer care workers at an AT&T Government Solutions center in Dover, N.H., gained representation with CWA Local 1298 through majority card check. 

Among the major contracts that CWA is bargaining this year are Verizon "East" — covering the traditional Verizon territory from Maine to Virginia — and Qwest Communications.

CWA, the United Steelworkers and the Auto Workers are working together in a joint effort to make comprehensive health care reform a key issue in the 2008 elections. The three unions agreed to a framework for reform that includes the following principles:
