NABET-CWA negotiators on Oct. 22 declared an end to an unprecedented, "limited issue" effort to reach an early contract agreement with NBC even as frustration was continuing to mount over the union's contract talks at ABC.

Service representatives and sales employees from across the nation sized up recent contract gains and redefined the union standard of quality customer service at CWA's National Marketing Conference, as they prepared to fight for the jobs of the future.

Nearly 200 operators from across the nation convened in Washington, D.C. for CWA's 17th Annual National Operators Conference, Oct. 17-21, focusing on the theme: "Operator Services, Determining Our Future in the New World of Telecommunications."

A federal court in New York City on Oct. 21 approved the negotiated settlement of a lawsuit filed last year by CWA and 53 employees of Nynex (now part of Bell Atlantic as result of a merger) growing out of disputes under the Family and Medical Leave Act.
