Currently Verizon is in contract negotiations with the Communications Workers of America -- representing forty-five thousand of their employees. For their new contract, Verizon wants to eliminate pensions for new employees,make current and new employees pay higher health care costs, and make it easier for the company to relocate jobs outside of the area.
These cuts are unfair because the company has made twenty billion dollars in profits over the last four years and paid its top five executives two hundred fifty million dollars, all while slashing jobs in the area. Workers say Verizon executives are being greedy and trying to take pay and benefits away from middle class families that are already struggling.
