As part of our campaign for respect at T-Mobile USA, CWA and ver.di are writing to political leaders at all levels of government in the U.S. and Germany. We are asking these leaders to write to the CEO of the parent company Deutsche Telekom, asking for an explanation of why DT practices a double standard in the U.S. in terms of labor rights. These leaders also ask the CEO to report back on the steps to be taken to address the situation.
CWA has customized letters for the 50 states plus the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico. In some states, there are retail stores or technicians. In other states, larger concentrations of employment exist in the form of call centers. Some of these call centers have received public subsidies in the form of training grants or economic development assistance. In two states, T-Mobile has "double-dipped": it has received training or economic subsidies and its employees receive public assistance because the company does not pay a living wage.
Each state letter to an opinion maker from CWA has relevant information for that state as does the letter from the opinion maker to the Deutsche Telekom CEO. Please read carefully your state’s two letters. There are minor changes that may need to be made: addressee, specification of city, etc. This should not take very long to customize.
You will note that the letter to the opinion maker is intended to disseminate the American Rights at Work report on T-Mobile. That report is available online at the T-Mobile campaign web site – www.LoweringTheBarForUs.org. If you write to individuals by regular mail and need copies of the report, please let me know the number of copies you need.
