CWA Members Are Ready to Help Realize President Biden’s Vision of a New Age of Progress for America

In his Joint Address to Congress tonight, President Joe Biden outlined his vision for rebuilding our country, revitalizing our democracy and creating a better future for all Americans. The Communications Workers of America are looking forward to working with the Biden Administration to make sure that front line workers are at the table to share their expertise in broadband buildout, manufacturing, aviation, public service, and other industries that are critical to realizing this vision.

In his first 100 days in office, President Biden has taken swift action to provide relief to working families who have suffered from the economic fallout of the COVID-19 pandemic. He has outlined ambitious plans to accelerate our country’s recovery from the pandemic. Importantly, President Biden’s plans focus on policies that will create and sustain good, middle-class jobs and build worker power by making it easier for workers to join unions.

President Biden’s American Rescue Plan, which he signed into law in March, has already provided critical funding to keep workers safe, protect jobs, help workers who’ve faced furloughs or layoffs due to the pandemic, and stabilize the pensions we’ve earned.

His American Jobs Plan includes funding to build high-speed broadband, repair our highways and bridges, build clean, electric buses, revitalize domestic manufacturing, upgrade our nation's airports, and much more. As part of the plan, Biden specifically calls on Congress to pass the PRO Act to ensure that those doing this work can join a union, and to guarantee union and bargaining rights for public sector workers.

President Biden’s American Families Plan, which he announced today, helps working families cover basic child care, education and health care expenses. It guarantees paid family and medical leave so that we no longer have to choose between caring for our loved ones and keeping our jobs. It extends the tax credits for working families that were included in the American Rescue Plan.

As President Biden said tonight, “Wall Street did not build this country, the middle class built this country and unions built the middle class.” CWA members are ready to do our part to build back better from this pandemic and realize President Biden’s vision of a new age of progress for America.
