CWA Local 9333 Reaches Settlement with unWired Broadband Over Unfair Labor Practices

$75,000 settlement comes as workers continue the fight for a first contract following union win and months of company stalling

Fresno, Calif. — The Communications Workers of America (CWA) announced that it has reached a settlement with unWired Broadband resolving several unfair labor practice charges with the National Labor Relations Board (NLRB), arising from the discipline and termination of several workers at the Fresno-based internet service provider. The settlement will deliver $75,000 in back pay to four affected workers, signaling the latest milestone in a campaign that has seen unWired technicians stand together amid a brutal anti-union attack by their employer.

In June 2025, unWired Broadband technicians voted overwhelmingly in favor of union representation by CWA to improve workplace safety, address unjust firings, and to secure a voice on the job. In the run-up to the union vote, workers endured captive-audience meetings, anti-union messaging from management, and the illegal firing of workers on the organizing committee. Members of the bargaining committee are now pressing unWired to come to the table for a first contract; their refusal to bargain is subject of the NLRB proceedings against the company.

"It is critical that every company respects workers' rights — and even more important when a company like unWired is receiving millions of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants from the California Public Utilities Commission to expand broadband to underserved communities,” said CWA District 9 Vice President Frank Arce. “unWired technicians stood together through a tough organizing campaign, and this settlement delivers meaningful relief to the workers who were affected. CWA is proud to stand with them and we expect unWired to come to the table and negotiate the strong first contract these workers have earned."

unWired Broadband is a Fresno, California-headquartered internet service provider focused on serving the Central Valley of California. unWired is a portfolio company of O2 Investment Partners, a Bloomfield Hills, Michigan-based private equity firm.
