CWA and AT&T Southwest Reach Agreement in Early Contract Extension Negotiations
Communications Workers of America (CWA) District 6 today announced that it has reached a contract extension agreement with AT&T Southwest in early contract negotiations.
The term of this extension agreement will begin upon expiration of the current contract on April 11, 2021 and end at 11:59 p.m. Central Time on April 12, 2025. The four-year extension agreement covers 17,000 wireline employees in Arkansas, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma and Texas.
CWA District 6 and AT&T Southwest began contract extension negotiations on June 15. It includes general wage increases in each year of the contract – 3 percent the first year, 3 percent the second year, 2.5 percent the third year, and 2.25 percent the fourth year. It preserves one of the most robust health care plans in the nation without additional employee cost sharing.
“This agreement provides stability for CWA-represented employees at AT&T Southwest as the country faces the economic impact of the COVID-19 crisis,” said CWA District 6 Vice President Claude Cummings, Jr.
The extension agreement includes an historical first time ever health care coverage provision for all employees who retire during the life of the 2017 AT&T Southwest collective bargaining agreement. CWA-represented employees covered by the AT&T Southwest contract who retired or will retire from April 9, 2017 – April 10, 2021 will continue active employee health care benefits through April 12, 2025. This is a major breakthrough in CWA’s negotiations with AT&T and a huge savings for members in CWA District 6 who retired under the 2017 agreement.
CWA and AT&T also agreed to extend the terms of all agreements, modifications and amendments that are part of the 2017 AT&T Southwest Settlement Agreement.
