GOP Senators Invoke “Nuclear Option” to Ram Supreme Court Nominee through Senate

Senate Republicans today invoked the extreme "nuclear option" to override the required 60 vote threshold in order to ram Judge Neil Gorsuch through the Senate confirmation process for Supreme Court.

As the Senate considered the nomination, CWA President Chris Shelton said, "As we testified to the Senate Judiciary Committee, Judge Gorsuch has demonstrated an anti-worker bias that puts workers' lives at risk. CWA members, like millions of working people, face health and safety threats on the job every day. Working people should not be subject to the broad assault on worker protections that Judge Gorsuch seems to advocate.https://ssl.gstatic.com/ui/v1/icons/mail/images/cleardot.gif"

Senator Jeff Merkley (D-OR) filibustered on the Senate floor for 15 1/2 hours to protest Gorsuch’s nomination and the rule change. "We are destroying the integrity of our core institutions in this nation. We need to pause and rethink that," he said.

The final Senate confirmation vote is expected on Friday.
