Workers Rally for Jobs in NYC

CWA members rallied in New York City to protest AT&T's plans to move their jobs from lower Manhattan to outside the city.

AT&T workers were joined by several members of the New York City Council who expressed shock that the company would desert lower Manhattan and vowed to press AT&T to keep needed jobs in New York City. CWA also ran newspaper ads denouncing AT&T’s planned move.

About 70 technician jobs are being transferred to White Plains, a move that will result in a three-hour commute for a number of workers, CWA pointed out.

At the rally, CWA Local 1150 President Laura Unger stressed that “AT&T owes a lot to the city, and for it to abandon New York City at this time is outrageous.”

Also joining the rally were members of CWA Locals 1101, 1110 and 1180, representatives from Musicians Local 802, supporters from Jobs with Justice and CWA District 1 representatives.
