Warning to Verizon Business

Local 1109 Vice Pres. William Gallagher, on right, led local participation in a nationwide day of leafleting June 29 to educate members concerning a marked loss of bargaining unit work. Since Verizon and MCI merged and created non-union Verizon Business, service reps, technicians and installers have all seen work disappear. Some have even had phone calls from non-union workers asking how to do their jobs. The handout members used includes charts illustrating that, while now two-thirds of Verizon workers have CWA representation, they could drop to one-third by 2007 if current trends continue. Said District 2 Vice Pres. Pete Catucci, "We need to let the company know we will not sit quietly by and watch our work disappear."
