Verizon North Central Talks Near Deadline
The CWA bargaining team has been boosted in its negotiations with Verizon North Central by a strong member mobilization and solidarity across all five states, reported CWA District 4 Vice President Jeff Rechenbach. Verizon North Central comprises the former GTE Ohio and other GTE operations in the Midwest.
The agreement covering nearly 2,000 workers expires Jan. 29.
In recent mobilization actions, members wore stickers, tied black ribbons to vehicle antennas and stood up in solidarity at some customer service centers.
The bargaining team has pressed management on members' key goals of improvements in wages, including fair wage rates for VNC workers; employment security; improvements in pensions, health care and other benefits and needed changes in working conditions, including oppressive overtime, vacations and other issues.
