US Airways Locals Elect Officers, Build Membership

US Airways passenger service employees are building their new CWA locals, electing officers and getting their mobilization and new programs on line.

Pam Terry became the first president of CWA Local 2000, based in Washington, D.C., and covering members based in Maryland, D.C., Virginia and West Virginia. James Root was elected president of Local 3641, headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., which covers all southern states with the exception of Florida. Florida US Airways members have elected Glenn Johnson as president of Local 3140, based in Tampa.

The Winston-Salem, N.C., reservations unit, the largest of CWA’s US Airways locals, elected Cathy Bumgarner to head Local 3440, and Rose Mary Nickerson was elected president of Local 1171, serving members in the New England and upstate New York area. Local 4404, the first passenger service local to be up and running, elected Susan Saylor to head the Dayton, Ohio based local.

Elections for passenger service members in District 13 are underway, and California members are joining existing CWA locals.

The first US Airways contract with CWA, covering about 10,500 workers, was ratified in September 1999.
