U@M trainings empowering long-time members
During his 8 years as a Customer Service Representative with AT&T Mobility, Michael Manchena has seen it all.
Recently, Michael participated in a Unity@Mobilty training session. Now, he better understands how having CWA in his corner will make a major difference in his life and the lives of his coworkers.
Q: Why did you first decide to go to the union training?
Michael Manchena: I wanted to learn more about our union, what my rights are, and how I can be more involved in the workplace. I thought it would be good to know what steps to take should I need help with anything related to my job and our workplace policies.
Q: What lessons will you take away from this experience?
MM: My main takeaway is knowing how our union and our members have helped shape the way AT&T and other companies treat their employees.
There are so many benefits from being a part of this union as opposed to being someone working for a company without representation. I think there are a lot of people who don't get what it means to be a part of a union — and they need to know about this.
Q: Why do you think other people should follow your example and go through the training, too?
MM: By taking this training, I feel more more educated about what the union has done, what it is doing, and what it will do moving forward. Most importantly, I now know how I can get involved. I think all AT&T employees who are bargained should sign up to do the training.
