Two Striking Sprint Locals Reach Tentative Pacts
CWA locals representing Sprint workers in Hickory, N.C., and Evansville, Ind., reached tentative agreements that maintain health care coverage and Sunday premium pay, among other gains, reported Jimmy Gurganus, CWA vice president for Telecommunications.
Meanwhile, bargaining continued or was set to resume at striking Sprint units in Ocala, Fla., for 500 workers covered by Local 3176, and Bluff City, Tenn., for 300 members of Local 3871.
Negotiations covering another 1,200 workers in North Carolina - members of Locals 3680, 3681, 3682 and 3685 - got underway Nov. 16. Members in those locals overwhelmingly authorized strike authorization if a fair contract cannot be reached.
The Hickory agreement, covering about 100 members of Local 3672, provides for a 7.5 percent wage increase over the contract term, retains Sunday premium pay and maintains flexcare health care benefits.
The Indiana settlement, covering nearly 40 members of Local 4700, provides for a wage increase of 7.5 percent over the three-year contract term, an increase in personal days from five to eight and an increase in pension and savings of 2.5 percent in each of the contract years, among other gains.
