Tentative Pact on New Natl Health Plan at Cingular
CWA and Cingular reached a tentative 4-year agreement on a new national health care plan covering all 22,000 union-represented employees. The new national plan, subject to member ratification, replaces three existing health plans.
Noting that Cingular has attempted to unilaterally make changes in health coverage, President Morton Bahr stated: "It's tremendously significant that we have nailed benefit coverage and costs for our members through January of 2009 in this agreement. This gives our members guaranteed health security at a time when the issue of health costs is a source of uncertainty for millions of workers and the cause of major labor turmoil."
Details of the settlement will be mailed to Cingular members shortly along with balloting instructions. The ratification vote will be handled by the American Arbitration Association.
