Talks Continue at SBC Yellow Pages
CWA members in District 4 who work for SBC Yellow Pages stepped up mobilization as bargaining for a new contract continued past the Aug. 13 expiration as the CWA News went to press.
The contract covers more than 1,200 workers throughout District 4.
Members have been holding region-wide "days of action" to make certain that management gets the message that CWA members are serious about a fair contract and having their voices heard, said Seth Rosen, administrative assistant to CWA District 4 Vice President Jeff Rechenbach.
Among workers' key goals: fair and equitable treatment on the job, particularly in the assignment of accounts; improvements to employment security and pensions; maintaining health care and keeping parity in benefits with other CWA members at SBC; and closing the pay gap between clerical workers at Yellow Pages and those under the SBC core contract.
The SBC Yellow Pages is rated as the country's top Yellow Pages service in a national industry usage study. According to the SBC annual report, the directory segment accounted for 30 percent of SBC's 2004 operating income, up from 25 percent in 2003.
