Sprint Pacts Reached in Virginia and New Jersey
Sprint bargaining units in New Jersey and Virginia have reached settlement on tentative agreements, reported T.O. Moses, CWA vice president for telecommunications. Ratification, expected in both units, will bring this round of Sprint bargaining to a successful conclusion.
Benefit and contract improvements are in line with those negotiated with other Sprint operations during the past year and ratified by CWA locals in Oregon, Indiana, Ohio, North Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Missouri, Kansas and — most recently — Florida.
The pacts, generally bring annual wage increases of 3 percent, higher pension and savings plan benefits, increased differentials and other improvements. Although settlements were not identical, health benefit premium shifting was avoided at most units.
“At all Sprint tables this year, the company had a long list of retrogressive demands that would have weakened our contracts and diminished our benefits,” said Moses. “Thanks to solidarity in our locals, nearly all retrogression was removed.”
